The problem with the links returned by content resolvers is that they are generally pretty long (albeit "friendly" URLs). This is great for most sharing and publishing platforms, but not ideal for Twitter, AIM, email or Facebook. There are a growing number of URL shortening services available. The first was the simpliest to integrate with, while the latter two provide much more interesting click-through data.
